Prom Dress Inspiration From Awards Season’s Best Looks!

It’s almost that time! Time to find out the perfect prom dresses that will make you stand out in a crowd of your peers. Yup, we’re talking prom dress shopping! For celebrities, awards season is their prom, except they just get to relive it week after week, with the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Grammys and the Oscars. Awards season is well underway and there’s no better place to turn to for prom inspiration than the red carpet! Macy’s MStylelab is breaking down this year’s dress trends that will help you turn heads at your prom! Take a look at the three biggest dress trends of the 2013 awards show season and how your favorite chic A-listers wore them! What girl doesn’t want to sparkle and shine on their big prom night? Carly Rae Jepsen rocked platinum sequins head-to-toe at this year’s Grammys, while Julianne Hough added just a pinch of sparkle (and a whole lot of tulle) at the Golden Globes. And our personal favorite, Florence Welch went down the shimmery route in her show-stopping emerald green gown at the Grammys. Ditch the boring black dress and stand out in the crowd with a pop of color! Rihanna was radiant in red at the 2013 Grammys, while Nina Dobrev’s pink gown definitely turned some heads at the 2013 SAG Awards. Finally, Jennifer Lawrence’s coral gown was the favorite of the night at this year’s Golden Globes. Want to bring a little sass to your look? Rocking a backless prom dress is the perfect way to make those jaws drop, which is exactly what Taylor Swift did at the Golden Globes with her plum, strappy open-back gown. Skylar Grey showed off her tattoos and toned back in a red sequined gown at the Grammys, and while Naomi Watts covered her arms in a stunning maroon gown at the Golden Globes, she added that sexy punch with peekaboo back.

Dress Up Games 2.0 Battle of the Dolls

Traditionally, competitive online games such as MMORPGs have been thought of as a boy’s sport, while, gaming for girls has been much more passive. Dress up games are a common genre of online games that girls and women of all ages seem to enjoy. Most dress up games allow girls to customize a virtual doll by choosing the doll’s clothing, hair, makeup, and accessories. However, once the dress up part is over, so is the fun.

A new era of dress up games is on the rise…Dress Up 2.0. In Dress Up 2.0, girls not only have fun with the fashion part of the game, but they are also able to compete with other members of the community. These competitions are fashion battles to determine which doll is better dressed. The best dressed is typically decided by the members of the community through voting.

Dress Up 2.0 also makes dress up more intense by adding a ranking system to the game. Members are given stats for how well they do in the fashion battles and these stats determine their ranking compared to other members. Most Dress Up 2.0 games display the top ranked dolls on a Leader Board of some sort, giving them fame and recognition for consistently putting together great outfits for their doll.

In the spirit of MMORPGs, features such as quests and guilds are available in some Dress Up 2.0 games to keep their users engaged. Quests are fashion-related tasks that a user must complete to advance within the game. These quests may include things such as buying certain clothing pieces for their d oll, winning a number of fashion battles, or voting on a specific number of fashion battles. Successfully completing these tasks give users a way to earn in-game currency and stats to boost their ranking.

In Dress Up 2.0 games, guilds are comparable to sororities. They give members an avenue to meet other users who share the same fashion interests. Keeping with the competitive aspect of Dress Up 2.0 games, guilds are able to compete against other guilds. Imagine a guild of Emo dressed dolls battling a guild of Preppy dressed dolls to determine which has the better fashion sense. It definitely makes for interesting entertainment.

Quite simply, Dress Up 2.0 has taken dress up games to the next level. Users who find themselves bored with the short solitaire play of traditional dress up games should seek for competitive Dress Up 2.0 games. These games offer a more intense and immersive aspect to doll dress up games.
